Island Under Cloud

This painting is inspired by the moment a Canary Islands silhouette appears through bad weather — La Palma half-erased by a rain band, El Hierro hidden behind cloud, the shape of an island held together by the colour of the sky around it. Dark, stormy blues and greys fill most of the canvas, with the island form built from slightly warmer, slightly heavier strokes, present without ever being fully revealed.
The piece is moody by design. A grounding painting for rooms that benefit from contrast — pale walls, plenty of light — where its weight earns its keep.
