Storm Light

This painting is inspired by a particular Canary Islands weather phenomenon: the brief, almost theatrical light that survives at the edge of a passing storm, when sun finds a gap in the cloud and the wet air briefly glows. Warm yellows and oranges thread through a darker, agitated ground of blues and greys, the brightness held in place by the surrounding weight.
The piece sits beside Crossing in Rough Water and Island Under Cloud as one of the more atmospheric works in the series, but it's the most hopeful of the three — light returning rather than light leaving. A good choice for rooms that need a little quiet drama.
